FTC Settlements Bar Deceptive Online Marketing of SAVE
The FTC contends that over an 18-month period Commerce Planet did not clearly and conspicuously disclose that, by registering for the “free offer,” consumers also were agreeing to be enrolled in the “Online Supplier” program and would be charged a “membership fee” of up to $59.95 per month unless they canceled within a few days of ordering. The terms and conditions of the program, including information about the recurring $59.99 fee, were difficult to find on Commerce Planet’s Web site. They appeared on a separate page from the trial offer that could only be accessed by a link, or on the payment page, but below the bottom of the visible screen. -

the biggest problem I see with this is - what if a person on youtube adds a track and you don't know they have added a copyrighted track ? - as in theory if it will work of sound recognition of some sort - you could watch 3 youtube videos and have your broadband cut off! - half the households in UK will be off-line within weeks, illegal music is embedded everywhere, so in theory any page you open three times that happens to have a jingle on could get a person in trouble - maybe they need to invent software to turn off all sound then, as I'm not getting the blame for other people uploaded stuff!!!!! -

This is an old entry (2006) but follows the same Amazon path that conned me in 2008 - When I contacted Amazon they replied with a typical bull#### form letter. When I persisted they actually examined my order. What they told me was that they were sorry for my 'frustration' but that they weren't responsible for what their partners chose to do with my credit card info (imagine that!): Imagine them giving away your card details without clearly telling you - that SHOULD be illegal. -
