There is a growing recognition of the importance of politics in shaping poverty reduction efforts in developing countries. But current development thinking and practice may be failing the poorest groups. What forms of politics lead to successful pro-poor policies?
Research from the Chronic Poverty Research Centre, in the UK, explores the links between forms of politics and policies that have been successful in reducing extreme forms of severe and persistent poverty. It presents case studies on social protection policies in eight developing countries: Bangladesh, Mozambique, India, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Uganda and Zambia.
