A quick overview of what makes a phrase a snowclone.
A note on B. Zimmer's correspondence with Safire re: snowclones.
"...a variety of circumstances, including something as seemingly innocuous as falls from a short height, can cause fatal head injuries that appear very similar to injuries routinely diagnosed as [Shaken Baby Syndrome]."
A little whiny, but otherwise, yeah, pretty much.
Recommended by Nancy Friedman. Some of these look like they'd be as functional for my pump-carrying needs as for cycling.
"The poor infrastructure in Dubai isn’t the result of capitalism run amok, but of Sheikh Mohammed recklessly and rapidly implementing his various grand, poorly-planned visions. None of this is free market. It’s state-driven corporatism. It’s not in any way an extension of the neo-liberal tradition of Locke, Ricardo, Smith, & Co."
Not exactly the most shocking revelation, but it's good that someone actually did examine this.
Part snowclone, part idiom: "the whole X", as in enchilada, megillah, nine yards, etc.
Just--no. WTF?!!!
