911: ACLU reveals: Ashcroft, Tenet, Rumsfeld warned 9/11 Commission about ‘line’ it ’should not cross’ SAVE
PEOPLE
Yes. The 911 Commission was a joke. Far more money was spent investigating Bill Clinton's blowjob.
That the commission could not even question those declared guilty is more proof of government interference in the process. This does not help the legitimacy of the commisison one bit. This will fuel conspiracy theorists. What a great job our government did. [/sarcasm].
Of course, this is probably mostly about hiding the systematic torture of our prisoners of war.
The worst crime on American soil was never even really investigated. Go Bush! Go Republicans!TAGS

Which means everyone hates the lesbians, and blames them for ruining their senior year and taking away their prom. This is government-enshrined intolerance. Wow. Go Mississippi.TAGS

PHOTOGRAPHERS' RIGHTS: Cops break law by forcing man to delete picture of cop's dead son who died, possibly due to drinking and driving SAVE
You have the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to photograph ANYTHING that happens in the public view. How do you think the papparazzi make a living? Police don't understand this, and flagrantly violate people's rights.
It seems like this is a recipe to make money in a lawsuit. Take pictures, get arrested, sue, win. How many times will our tax dollars have to pay for these lawsuits before police -- who are supposed to uphold the law -- start to follow it themselves?
Photographers' rights is an important technology war issue. Cameras are not just for the government. They are for the people. Besides, the government is supposed to be by, of, and for the people *anyway*.
Here's hoping Antonio Amador gets a healthy heap of cash due to Joseph Martin Zapushek apparent drunk driving (assuming the evidence linking alcohol to the crash pans out).TAGS

POLICE STATE: Boulder's Naked Halloween Streakers will be charged as sex offenders, say police SAVE
PEOPLE
Yup. Big bad sex offender lists designed to protect children are now being used as blackmail to get police to scare people to not be naked -- in a city where being naked is not illegal. (They are using the state-level indecent exposure instead.) Every town council member is against this. Police Chief Mark Beckner should step down and quit his job. He's not enforcing the law, he's forcing morality upon a 10-year-old tradition. The ACLU agrees that he's full of shit too.TAGS

OBAMA: Signs Law Giving Defense Department authority to exempt photos from Freedom Of Information Act SAVE
Democrats bitched about the abuses that people in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo faced. So they elected Obama.
Looks like Obama's way of making sure Abu Ghraib doesn't happen again is to give the government the authority to not release pictures in the future.
I'd love to see people justify this as good thing. Obama's promise of government transparency? A lie, at this point. This is about hiding information from the people.
HE POKED A HOLE IN THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, for chrissakes. This is something Bush would do. So much for a government "for the people", huh?
The ACLU is against this, of course. They aren't partisan. They are pro-freedom. They know bullshit when they see it, and they call it as such.
But will the Obamans be able to admit to themselves that this is wrong?TAGS

CAPITALISM VS. WOMEN: Rape Victim's Choice: Risk AIDS or Health Insurance? SAVE
PEOPLE
Here's an example of why health care reform is needed. Things like this do not happen in every other civilized country in the world.
"It's difficult enough to make sure that rape victims take the drugs," said Diana Faugno, a forensic nurse in California and board director of End Violence Against Women International. "What are we supposed to tell women now? Well, I guess you have a choice - you can risk your health insurance or you can risk AIDS. Go ahead and choose."TAGS

RIGHTS: Obama administration to seek extension of Patriot Act spy powers; take away Guantanamo rights from prisoners in Bagram SAVE
PEOPLE
Yup. Obama supports taking away the same rights that Bush did. Different president, same disregard for your rights. This is the failure of 2-party politics. I'm glad I didn't vote 2 party. The Democrats are of course supporting this.
When 2 enemies threaten you, you don't make friends with one just because you're more likely to have some muscle behind you. You go and make a new friend. I don't understand why politics and voting make people unable to comprehend this simple concept. I've heard all the excuses and don't buy any of them. One vote is always one vote.
I should point out that the oath of office is to uphold the constitution, making Obama and Bush some of the biggest liars sine Nixon.
Oh, and also, they are trying to make it so prisoners of war in Bagram ("Obama's Guantanamo") don't get the same rights as those in Guantanamo. Pretty devious: Close down Guantanamo, put new prisoners somewhere else, and now they have to fight for their rights all over again from scratch.TAGS

TORTURE: CIA Will Continue to Withhold Key Bush-Era Torture Documents SAVE
What did you say Obama? You promised an era of government transparency? You could put your money where your mouth is and do something about this, but you've chosen not to. Which makes you complicit with torture, no matter how much the Obamans will want to rationalize this as "strategy over tactics".TAGS
